Planning a trip to Venice, Italy

If you know anyone who's visited "The Floating City" before, chances are they've ranted and raved about how magical of a place it is....

They were right.

There's just something about getting lost (literally) in Venice's thousands of canals and corners throughout the city. Each building has it's own identity and purpose. As someone who is used to very large tourist locations, this city was a total switch. It was a condensed space that housed fantastic eats, beautiful hotels and incredible architecture packed into a 3-mile by 2-mile area on water.

Though the first day we were in Venice featured cloudy weather after a rainstorm had passed through, once the sun came out we got to see the city for all it was worth. There are many different ways to explore Venice - by foot, water taxi and gondola ride. Given the time of year we visited and our short time in the city, we opted to set out on foot and took a water taxi to see as much of the vibrant location as possible.

We made stops along our route at The Rialto, Saint Mark's Basilica, the Piazza San Marco, Doge's Palace, the San Marco Campanile, the Bridge of Sighs and more. But most of all, we loved to see all of the different buildings come together to form a cluster of non-stop color and character during our visit.

It was definitely one of our most romantic spots, as our hotel on the water was nothing short of a dream. I highly recommend the Hotel Continental to anyone visiting - it's close to the train station, offers a tasty free breakfast and great view of the Grand Canal.
