Chic Workwear with Swell Caroline

It's come to that point in my life when it's time to lay off the crop tops (at least non-sensible ones), shortie shorts and sorority t-shirts.

Well, those t-shirts are comfy as a cloud so I'll probably just wear those around my apartment...

Luckily, I'm working in a more creative environment that will allow me to dress professionally, yet still trendy to show off my style. The atmosphere at HSN really is fun, and I can't wait to get started on my new routine.

Though I'm currently in the midst of packing my life away into boxes, I've taken inventory of my closet and have started to piece looks together that will be perfect for the work environment (no boxy suits or grandma shoes for this lady).

Helping me to piece things together are beautiful statement pieces like this black, purple and gold collar from Swell Caroline. I was tickled pink when I got this necklace in the mail - since its a combo of some of my favorite colors - and couldn't wait to wear it.

Now, when it comes to creating my favorite office looks, jewelry additions like these will really transform a drab outfit into an attention-stealer.

So, how to style a piece like this Swell Caroline collar, you ask? Here's my breakdown:
  1. WHITE - I am a sucker for all things white. White furniture. White clothing. White peonies. White teeth. White is an absolute staple in my life. The nice thing about it? IT'S SO EASY. It literally pairs with whatever you want. So, my advice? Gather your favorite white pieces from your closet (or invest in some if you're not so stocked) and lay them out to look at. White pants: Ultra fab with a chiffon-like blouse and tailored blazer (go for a colored jacket!), and add the statement collar.
  2. BLACK - My obsession with white is essentially exactly the same with black (maybe even more when it comes to the clothing area). Obviously, black is slimming and timeless. So, spice things up with a printed midi skirt or belted shirt dress to compliment your jewels.
  3. SCOOP/COLLAR - While I'm not following this rule in my own ensemble pictured on this post, I think that scoop necks and collared blouses look the best with necklaces like these. It's easy to layer on a necklace with a chambray buttoned blouse or a scoop-neck tee.
  4. MINIMIZE OTHER ACCESSORIES - Some people like to go ALL out when it comes to their jewelry. That's not the case for me. I like to choose one (maybe two depending on what I'm wearing) items to showcase as my statement pieces, and then select dainty options for the rest. **Note: I will never pair statement earrings and a statement necklace (unless the necklace is very long). I think both of these look a bit overwhelming and top-heavy, which none of us really want. However, an elegant monochrome designer evening look paired with statement earrings and necklace? That's a different story. So, if you're a red carpet usual, then you can ignore my note sometimes.
Ideas from my own closet:
  • White structured Mango blouse, black ankle pants, black leather, pointy-toed pumps and SC collar
  • White belted t-shirt dress, black strappy wedges and SC collar
  • Black jumpsuit, ankle-strap heels and SC collar
  • Chambray collared shirt, black midi skirt, gold sandals and SC collar
There are so many combinations to be made with a piece like this one from Swell Caroline. So, what are you waiting for? Browse their site and order some sparkle; you deserve it!

Is it the weekend yet?
